Towards an Integrated Solution for Renewable Water and Energy

An integrated plant that would generate energy from solar power and provide clean water would help solve multiple sustainability issues. The feasibility of such a plant was investigated by looking at the efficacy of several different modules of such a plant on a small scale.

Exogenous foliar thiamine application as an alternative strategy to mitigate lead stress in Lepidium sativum

Exogenous foliar thiamine application as an alternative strategy to mitigate lead stress in Lepidium sativum

This study investigated whether thiamine (vitamin B1) could mitigate the harmful effects of lead contamination on plant growth. Using garden cress (Lepidium sativum), we found that lead exposure reduced plant growth and biomass, while thiamine treatment partially alleviated these effects, improving shoot length and overall plant length. These findings highlight the potential of thiamine as a simple strategy to improve plant resilience to heavy metal stress, with implications for agricultural productivity and food security.

Dietary calcium intake and lead body burden in U.S. adolescents

We investigated whether dietary calcium intake affects how adolescents handle lead internally. Using paired blood and urinary lead data, we assessed whether calcium status is associated with differences in lead clearance. The results point to subgroups of adolescents—particularly those with lower calcium intake—who may carry a higher internal lead burden than their blood levels alone would suggest.

Testing the Impact of a Geometric Curvature Variable on the Accuracy of Econometric Forecasting Models

Testing the Impact of a Geometric Curvature Variable on the Accuracy of Econometric Forecasting Models

Classical financial forecasting models often fail to capture the complex, nonlinear dynamics of the stock market. This study demonstrates that incorporating a single variable to represent the 'geometric curvature' of a time series dramatically improves the accuracy of standard econometric forecasts. Our findings highlight that geometric properties are a significant predictive factor, opening new avenues for more powerful financial modeling.
